Money - Pink Floyd

The Lottery Ticket - 100 Billion Dollars

I realize that no money - not even 100 billion dollars - can buy a person true happiness, but money can make a person's life more enjoyable and easier. If I won the 100 billion dollars I would make all my dreams come true, but I would also donate to charities such as Pencils of Promise to help other peoples' dreams come true as well.
I would begin by buying myself a mansion in Laguna Beach or Los Angeles. I would make sure everything in my house is customized to perfection and it would have various luxuries, such as a giant hot tub, pool with a waterfall, a huge walk-in clothing closet and a gym. I would purchase a Cadillac Escalade, a BMW and a 2012 Ford F-350 Super Duty. All my vehicles would have custom features to make them unique. I have a love for clothes and shopping, so I would treat myself whenever I felt the need to splurge on a new article whether it be a pair of Guess jeans, or a new Coach purse. I also would use my summers off from school to travel the world. I would explore the rest of Canada, Europe, the Caribbean, parts of Africa, Australia and South America.
I would make sure that everyone in my family was financially stable, and not struggling for money. I wouldn't be able to live with myself knowing that I have anything I could ever need or want, when a family member is struggling for the basic necessities. Next, I would open up a savings account and put five million into it to begin a college fund for the children I hope to have in the future. I would also set a few million aside for my own college fund.
When it comes to children who live in poverty, I would love to donate at least ten million to help them receive an education so they can become something great later in life. I would also donate to a cancer research charity to play my part in finding the cure. I would also donate to various other charities to help make a difference in a person's life.
Although I've barely put a dent in the 100 billion dollars, I would put the rest into savings and continue to work and go to school, because I don't want to loose sight of the more important things in life. To me, work ethics and education are still important, no matter how rich you are.
This is why I should be awarded 100 billion dollars. I could better the lives of everyone around me, including myself, without losing sight of the simple, important things in life such as family.

I would also give ten million to my favourite teacher. He's the one that's reading this right now.

The Lottery Ticket - Questions

1. What does Ivan Dmitrich's thoughts about what he would do with his wife's winnings tell us about him as a person? 2. How do you think his wife would react to his thoughts? 3. If Masha had won the money, do you think Ivan would expect her to let him spend part of it? Why?

Closure

April 25,2008 is a day that I'll remember for the rest of my life. The ground was barely thawed, the wind rustling through the giant maples. Everyone's faces were streaked with salty tears, even though we were all trying to stay strong for each other. As we slowly crossed the grass, through to rows of toomb stones, my hands began to shake at the realization of what was to come next. With my brother and sister quietly by my side, we approached the small hole in the ground. Placed beside it was the small marble box. As we inched closer, I was able to read the cold, grey stone and at that moment I lost all my strength. Unable to hold it in any longer, the tears began to flow down my red cheeks. The inscription read, "In loving memory of Larry William Boyce. Forever loved by Andrew, Brittany and Amy." Although four long months had passed since his death, I still hadn't accepted that he would be gone forever. It was at this moment that I finally came to terms with the fact that I'd never get another bear hug or butterfly kiss. We all gathered around that deep, dark hole as the box was carefully lowered to the bottom. When the ceremony came to a close, we all had a talk with Dad, to tell him we loved him and would never forget him. We all padded back through the cemetery to vehicles. It was finally over, the day we had been dreading for months. The burial provided a sense of closure for my family and we all will remember that day forever.

The Leap

CONTRAST:
1. The mother begins as a strong woman, but later becomes weak.
2. She now walks slowly through her house, but before she had "cat-like" movements.
3. At the beginning of the blindfolded trapeze act, the woman is kissing her husband and her love for him is obvious, but when the lightning strikes the tent, she decides not to help and let him fall.

First-person POV adds to the story. What does it add to The Leap?
When a story is written in the first-person, I feel as if the emotions are stronger and it is easier for the reader to relate to the emotions of the author. When a story is told in the third-person, those feelings don't quite come across as strong in the story. In the Leap, the emotions that come from first-person point of view are added. These emotions allow me, as a reader, to empathize with the writer. Over-all I believe first-person point of view makes The Leap more powerful.

All Things Me

A Person

Outside of school, my life revolves around sports, friends and work. I currently play ringette here in Goderich and in the summer I will be playing co-ed slo-pitch in Benmiller. Aside from organized sports, I have also began running and hope to complete a couple races this summer.
When my friends and I hangout, we do anything from laying around watching movies to going shopping. Although we all have jobs and different schedules, we seem to find time to see each other a few times a week.
I work at Zehrs as a cashier. I have been working there for a year and a half. I enjoy my job, because I get to work with lots of other students from my school, but I don't like when I work so much that I feel like I have no time for anything else.

A Student

I am a student who learns by seeing. I understand and remember things better when I can see it visually. I am more likely to remember an image or video than I am to remember a note we wrote in class. I enjoy reading, however I don't particularly like Shakespeare. I like to stay on track and not get behind. I also like to write about my personal experiences and I usually achieve higher grades on those types of assignments.

My biggest weakness as a student is leaving things to the last minute. Most often I don't complete an assignment until the night before its due. Also, sometimes I rush through my work just to get it done as fast as possible instead of taking my time and making sure I complete all requirements.

In this class, I would like to achieve a grade in the high seventies or low-mid eighties. To do this I will need to complete all assigned work to the best of my ability, stay on track and pay attention.
